The long awaited musical concert of St. Joseph’s Chosen Church of God, Encounter Season 6 finally came to pass on Friday 27th September running through early morning of Saturday 28th of September 2024 at Osapa London branch of the church.
On his welcome address by Apostle Ken Osanebi,  the Lagos Regional Apostle who also doubles as the Global Music Minister of the church displayed a great presentation of protocol  as he started by recognising His Eminence, Apostle Samson Nyeche Ogbu, the Spiritual Leader of the church with his entourage which includes the Honorable Secretary General of the Great Church, Staff Pastor Elohor Eniwore, the National Music Director, Elder Benjamin Okpere, Members of the Ecclesiastical Council and Board of Governors present. He went further to recognise the Chairman Local Organizing Committee for The Encounter Season 6, Evangelist Eunice Sampson and her Team, not forgetting other Minsters of God present. He recognised the invited Guest Ministers, Ministers of the church, Officers and Members of of the Great Church and other invited Guests.
He thanked everybody present for making out time to witness this great event despite their busy schedules and prayed God to reward all abundantly.
On his address, he took the audience to the past when he said "Permit me to briefly take you down memory lane on the birth of this program. "Following my appointment as National Music Minister in 2017, I had this burden in my heart to first and foremost develop the Music Ministry and create a platform that should project the name of the Church and win souls to Christ through music. "Upon discussion with a few trusted minds, The Encounter was given birth to and here we are at the Sixth Edition," he proudly said.
The project has produced encouraging results that made the organisers to go further to expand the ideas that gave birth to
development of Musical Talents within the church and subsequently project them on The Encounter platform.
This no doubt from his address produced Talent Hunt Program like SJ Got Talent, which are doing marvelously well and have so far done three editions, giving rise to three National Music Ambassadors who also  performed live at the day’s event.
It could be noted that this  Encounter in the past five Seasons has hosted renowned Gospel Artists such as Joe Praize, Tim Godfrey, Steve Crown, Eben, Mercy Chinwo, Judikay, Wole Oni, Bidemi Olaoba, to mentioned a few. "We are proud to say that a few of these artists so mentioned have repeatedly graced the Encounter Stage and consequently fostered and maintained mutually beneficial relationships with the church.
"Today, our great church has gained more visibility beyond the shores of Nigeria through this God given inttiative, The Encounter.
"Today, we are proud to announce that emerging from the JS Got Talent Hunt, the very first Music Ambassador of the Church, Sunday Blessed has not only made impact within the church, but is fast gaining relevance ministering recently in the Unusual Praise Concert," he said.
"In the same vein, the second Music Ambassador of the Church, Ose Ekeh also featured in the Just concluded 60 Days Sacrifice of Praise held in Victoria Island Lagos, with the likes of Mercy Chinwo and other top-ranking Gospel Ministers.
"Still in light of the above we have lined-up to minister today, the third Music Ambassador of the church, Excel Okojie, who is equally poised to take giant strides and excel in the Gospel Music space both within Nigeria and beyond." Apostle Osanebi said.
It should be noted that the theme of this year’s Encounter is "A Shout of Victory" which is unique in the sense that Victory is ultimately the reward of every true believer in Christ Jesus.
He finally informed the audience that ministering through music for the day would be a mixture of in-house Minsters from the Church and three Guest Minsters to spice up the activities of night programme.
"We will also have an opportunity to hear the Seasoned Word of God from a renowned Minister of the Gospel, plus a few other activities to ensure that every moment counts, and your attendance is worth your while," Apostle Osanebi concludes.
There were some earth moving Gospel performances before the Spiritual Leader was invited to address the congregation which was by now getting escasy with the melodious tones from these Gospel Artists.
On his address, His Eminence, Apostle Ogbu in his usual jokes to relax the congregation started by thanking them so far for not introducing "Gwogwogwongwo" in their dance steps.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Col. 3:16.
He professed his joy and strength as he stood among the congregation to appreciate the Father, the son and Holy Ghost whose faithfulness and unwavering commitment to the Music Ministry of the Church is ever sure.
"I am grateful to Him who bore all our Choristers in His Hands of safety, from the nooks and crannies of our Country to Lagos for this great gathering of Music Ministers. May His Name be praised!!!
"Let me congratulate the entire members of the Music Ministry of our Church led by a visionary and dogged Leader, Apostle Dr Kenneth Osanebi whose commitment, and full support of his leadership team had contributed immensely to the growth and sustenance of the Ministry and flying the flag of Christ in St. Joseph's Chosen Church of God," the Spiritual Leader said.
With the encouraging growth of the church,  Apostle Ogbu thanked the ministers for their contributions to the growth and sustenance of the Church in the various Branches and Regions.
He reminded members
that the church is predominantly led by the Holy Spirit, which is why in the beginning of the year 2024 he was led to Rev. 3:8, where the church got the guiding light for this year, “Open Door" as their theme.
An open door to believers in Christ, is a symbol of opportunity especially in soul winning and Christian service (7 Cor. 16 9:2 Cor 2112, Rev 38)," he said.
He went further to reiterate that it represent opportunities given by God, they are new beginnings spiritually, socially, musically, financially materially, ministerially and so on.
"It is the fulfillment of the promises of God, Chief among all, the door of salvation, Matthew 6:33, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the door of God’s salvation, John 10: 7-9. If you are not saved you are not safe.
"At the beginning of this year, the Lord called and asked me a striking question as He said, 'if I come today, how many of your people are ready for the Kingdom?' I could not give Him an answer"
He therefore asked the members if they are ready for the coming of Christ? "Are your souls prepared for the Kingdom," He asked?
He pleaded to the congregation encouraging them to decide to make good  use of the door of salvation that is open to them now before it is too late.
Referring to the theme, a Shout of Victory! He saw it as a shout of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous as he said “The LORD'S right hand has done mighty things: The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things.
" I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done,” Psaims 118 15-17. He went on to say that some "people shout for fear of terror, pain, insecurity, and threat to life, but we the Children of God shout for Victory, we shout for triumph over the enemy, for Christ has given us victory over all the powers of the enemy.
Looking closely to the event, The Encounter Season six as a strategic issue, because it is the climax of all the planned National programmes of the Church for the year 2024.
"The Music Ministry today is leading the entire Church to worship, praise anddance to the Almighty God for the success of all the Regional Conventions, including the Conventions of the Men and Women Fellowships.

"The Lord was with us in all these events, may His Name be praised!
"I congratulate you for crowning our programme, with a praise session of this magnitude. May the Lord bless you all," the elated Spiritual Leader said.
He did not mince words to appreciate the progress the Ministry has made so far especially through the SJ GOT TALENT Initiative and The ENCOUNTER. He saw the initiative as instrumental to the development of the Choristers.
He did not fail to state that there is also room for improvement in the area of building the branch Choirs to an enviable height in the Music Ministry.
He informed the members that the Church Authorities have decided to appoint a new Assistant Music Minister, since Staff Pastor Elohor Eniwore has been elevated to serve as the Secretary General of the Church. He directed that the new Assistant Music Minister will work closely with the Music Minister to continue the good work of building Choristers and Choirs for the Lord in this end time.
He finally blessed the members, covering their constant prayers for the peace, growth and expansion of the church in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Encounter, Season six 2024 may have come and gone but the memories will linger until the next Encounter because it was a powerful gospel carnival, to the glory of God.

NNADI DERA: A CASE OF A PROPHET WITHOUT HONOURS?

By Chike Okey Iroegbu
This write up is dedicated to ACG Nnadi Dera mni for this platform only. Dera as we all refer to him has made Nekede proud within his stint in the Nigeria Customs Service. I personally got into confrontation with him as a Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement at Tincan Island command when against every odd, I wrote to eulogies him. Dera did not receive that publication with joy as he forbids that. He wanted heavens to fall but I told him that his antecedents and exploits cannot be neglected by a seasoned Journalist like me. For him, he only forgave me because of my age and he finally appreciated me but warned me not to publish him while he has some seniors. Little did we realise that we are alumni of this great Institute, College of Technology, Owerri. When I narrated the incident to some of my colleagues, they all confirmed that he avoids much publicity. It was not long after that incident that he was promoted as a substantive comptroller and redeployed to Ogun 1 Customs Area Command, Idiroko, Ogun State. It was a ploy to harness the experience he had gathered as an enforcement officer at Tincan. After a while at Idiroko, he was sent to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS, Kuru for a course which came out successfully with the cherished appellation mni. My major opening with Dera came up on his redeployment to Seme Border Area Command, a command similar to the former one and my area of concentration. At Seme, Dera exhibited the experience he had gathered all these while. The command which met its waterloo after closing and subsequent reopening of the Nigerian borders started breathing again on the redeployment of Dera to the command. One thing led to the other and our identities as old boys were revealed. Since then I have monitored Dera on his leadership and exploits on Trade facilitation in the Nigeria Customs Service and I am very, very proud of him. It has been one accolade or the other. At Seme border, he made the annual target two months before the end of the year. He restructured the area before his redeployment. For this superlative records, the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR, considered him suitable to handle the second biggest command in Nigeria, the Tincan Island Sea Port Command with the mandate to generate annual revenue running into trillion of Naira. Dera loves challenges, he therefore did not only succeed as the first Customs Area Controller to earn a Trillion Naira plus at Tincan but also renovated and turned the command to a 5-star state of beauty as a man with an eye for aesthetics which earned him a prestigious award from the Comptroller General of Customs. Dera made his mark as a former Public Relations Officer in the service and with his beautiful perforce as a PRO, he became a darling to the pen pushers. Dera came to Tincan Island Command, he saw and conquered. Today all these have earned him the elevated position of Assistant Comptroller General of Customs ACG. What prompted this write-up is that for the past one week or so, messages of honour have been pouring in but I have not seen any one from the Alumni. Is this the case of a prophet not without honours except among his people?

COMPTROLLER NNADI mni RECEIVES GOLD SERVICE MEDAL AND WORK PLACE TRANSFORMATION AWARD

Okey IROEGBU
The newly renovated administrative building for the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been commissioned by the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR. This was after the Customs Service reconstructed the 40 years old infrastructure and two new buildings. CGC Adeniyi described the new look of the facilities as capable of winning award. He said at the ceremony, “We dedicate this to the glory of God, and for the provision of better and more optimal service to the federal government of Nigeria. I commend Comptroller Dera Nnadi and all his men for the initiative of getting this done. When he told me about it, I never knew that it was such a gigantic project. “I just thought that they put some brushes here and there. But from what I have seen physically and from the video I’ve seen, this is an award-winning project. The award for the Nigeria Customs Service in 2024, which was supposed to have taken place two weeks ago, will now take place in two days’ time. As Comptroller-General of Customs, I can assure you that we will not forget this project.” The Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni said the renovation was not just about aesthetics and upgrading physical infrastructure, but intended to make a statement to reinforce CGC’s policy focus on “collaboration, consolidation and innovation’. Comptroller Nnadi explained that the offices were fashioned in such a way that customs officers offer their services and achieve wonderful results. Nnadi’s speech on the occasion reads: "As we celebrate the unveiling of this renovated facility, we must recognize the historical context of this transformation. Since the inception of this Command in 1977, no major renovation has been undertaken to update and modernize the office complex. For decades, our officers have worked diligently within the confines of outdated infrastructure, and today, we witness a transformation that will no longer be just a reflection of the past, but a symbol of the future – a future that is modern, efficient, and committed to service excellence. “This renovation goes beyond mere aesthetics or upgrading physical infrastructure; it is a clear statement of intent that reinforces the CGC’s policy focus on Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to improving working conditions, enhancing operational efficiency, and providing a conducive environment for our officers and stakeholders alike. A well-maintained office complex ensures that we continue to provide exceptional service and achieve greater results in our core functions of revenue generation and trade facilitation. “It is important to note that our work here at Tin Can Island Port goes beyond infrastructure; we are deeply committed to the economic growth of Nigeria. In 2024, under the leadership and guidance of the Comptroller General of Customs, our Command has made remarkable strides in revenue generation. We are proud to announce that for the first time in history, Tincan Island Port has generated over ₦1, 125,744,318,049.60 (One trillion, One Hundred and Twenty Five Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty-Four Million, Three Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Forty Nine Naira Sixty Kobo) in revenue—an exceptional feat that highlights the dedication and hard work of our officers. “This achievement is a significant leap from the ₦639,665,622,978.55 (Six Hundred and Thirty Nine Billion, Six Hundred and Sixty Five Million, Six Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy Eight Naira, Fifty Five Kobo) collected as at November 2023. The success recorded in our revenue drive reflects not only the diligence of our officers but also the collaborative efforts with other stakeholders. It is a testament to the positive impact of our policies and reforms, and it reaffirms the Service commitment to maximizing revenue collection for the growth of our nation. “In addition to our successes in revenue generation, we continue to make significant strides in enforcing compliance and tackling smuggling activities. We are all witness to the seizure of various quantities of arms, unregulated pharmaceutical and psychotropic substances and other Un-customs goods. Our achievement in this direction further underscores our commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economic and security interests. These seizures not only demonstrate the vigilance and dedication of our officers but also highlight our unyielding commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s borders. We recognize the importance of preventing the inflow of harmful goods and ensuring that all imported items meet the legal and regulatory standards. “I would like to take a moment to congratulate the officers of Tin Can Island Port Command for their unwavering commitment, determination, and excellence. The revenue collected, the seizures made, and the success of this renovation are all outcomes of your hard work and dedication to duty. This renovation is a direct result of your efforts, and I commend you all for your service to the nation. “As we celebrate this achievement, I also want to acknowledge the crucial role played by all our stakeholders—importers, clearing agents, shipping companies, and everyone involved in the operations at Tin Can Island Port. I ask for your continued support in maintaining a habitable environment within this complex. A clean, safe, and well-maintained office space is essential for the continued success of our operations, and I urge all stakeholders to respect the rules and guidelines surrounding this complex, so we can sustain the positive atmosphere that this renovation has created. “This facility, though newly renovated, is still a work in progress. The work is far from over, and we need your support to ensure that it remains in top condition. By working together, we can maintain the high standards we have set for ourselves and ensure that Tin Can Island Port remains a symbol of excellence in customs administration. “I would like to thank the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority and the Port Managers of Tincan Island Port for their support. At this juncture , I wish to most sincerely express my deepest gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc(+) and his management for their continuous support to Tin Can Island Port Command. CGC Sir, your leadership, vision, and commitment have provided the guidance and resources necessary for us to reach these significant milestones. Without your support, the achievements we celebrate today would not have been possible. “In conclusion, may I kindly remind the officers, stakeholders and all those that will use this facility that we all continue to work together to maintain the standards of excellence we have set and ensure that this newly renovated complex serves as a beacon of progress for years to come. It could be recalled that when the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service,  Bashir Adewale Aeniyi, MFR, was commissioning the renovated and remodeled office complex of Tincan Island Command, he specifically said to the stakeholders at that event that  Customs  award which had  earlier been postponed will now take place on Friday, November 30, 2024. That Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, the Customs Area Controller, Tincan Island Command, has already earned for himself a place at that recognition following the ingenuity of that renovation. He may have gladdened the heart of Comptroller Nnadi, when he declared that the multi-million Naira renovated and remodeled office complex of the Tincan Island Command is "an award-wining project," an indications that the Customs will be  given special recognition for the bold initiative. Comptroller Nnadi therefore got Special Recognition over the renovated and remodeled office complex of the Command, true to the words of the Comptroller General. Comptroller Nnadi was presented a Special Recognition Award for Workplace Transformation and he also received the Comptroller General of Customs Gold Service Award medal. Comptroller Nnadi, after receiving these awards as well as a certificate of excellence, applauded the Customs CG, Adeniyi, for the accolades and for providing inspiring leadership for the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service. The Area Controller dedicated the achievements recorded to Officers and men of the command. He described the achievements as  a result of teamwork, commitment, focus, and dedication of all the officers of the command. He did not forget to remind his officers and men that the awards call for increased commitment and a challenge to sustain and improve on the pace of work at the command. Comptroller Dera, also urged  Business men and women at the Tincan Island port to take advantage of the Trade modernisation project initiatives of the Comptroller General of Customs, to ensure the use of technology at the port, Trade facilitation and paperless port procedures. Finally, he expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for the support given to the command and  honour bestowed on him. He also called for continuous support from all stakeholders

COMPTROLLER KOLADE WINS CUSTOMS BORDER TRADE FACILITATION AWARD

Okey IROEGBU
Comptroller Kayode Kolade the Customs Area Controller of Seme border Area Command no doubt is a known anti-smuggling Czar. The CAC who has traversed all the Western and Eastern Customs Commands has stamped his feet on sands of time in anti smuggling war in the Customs Service. At a recent visit to the Chairman of Badagry West LCDA in Lagos, the officers was recognised as the first Customs Controller from Lagos State origin to be posted to the famous land border. This was considered as historic by the Chairman, Hon. Gbenu Joseph according to the information reaching this media by Solomon Zosu, Senior Special Assistant on Information, Tourism and Special Works to the Badagry West Local Council Development Area. It could be observed that in the past, the youths of the area have been very restive and unaccommodating to security operatives with special attention to the Nigeria Customs Service. This had led to unwarranted attacks to both sides before the introduction of some programmes in the area to gainfully engage the youths. Badagry West LCDA is one of the three Local Government Councils that made up the old Badagry Local Government Area, sitting as the Land lord of Seme Border Customs Area Command. No sooner did Comptroller Kolade enter the border that he started working on modalities to improve on trade facilitations. This took him to visiting some economic hubs around the jurisdiction of the area command. Such visits took him to ASPANDA at the International Trade Fair Complex along Mile2/Seme Expressway and Alaba International markets to introduce the openings for the traders on export which is taking a comfortable stage at the border. It could be noted that Dangote Cement on Export goes through the border to many West African countries along Lagos/Adbhjan corridor. This and many of these trade facilitations by the workaholic controller was eulogized at the Customs Gala and Award night for Comptroller Kolade's continuous waging of war on smuggling which has helped in keeping in check the unwholesome importation of prohibited goods into the country through this corridor. At the award nite where many other Customs Area Controllers who have distinguished themselves in their respective areas of jurisdiction were honoured, Comptroller Kolade was also honoured with a prestigious award on Border trade facilitation. This could be noticed from his contineous meetings with critical stakeholders in both sides of the divide. Seme border is an international boundary between Nigeria and Benin Republic. Before now, critics have written off the border as notorious for smuggling in unwholesome items that are detrimental tohuman health. On arrival, Comptroller Kolade saw the border as an important corridor to strenghten ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme ETLS and export. This he has achieved within a relatively short period, making the area which has long gone on limbo to reactivate. At a recent visit to the Area, it could be noted that life has gradually returned to the border which went into commatoes since the closure and subsequent reopening of the border. No wander the amiable Customs Area Controller was recognised with such award. As the best Border policeman across the country with this recognition. This is inspite of his primary responsibility to intercept smugglers who have committed any economic infractions. This responsibilty of both enforcement and generation of revenue might sound herculean but the CAC is equal to the task with his officers who are ever ready to swing into action on the least credible intelligence. Comptroller Kolade whose exploits at his former command, Federal Operations Unit, Zone 'C' Owerri cannot be forgotten in a hurry is an anti-smuggling war lord. It is on record that the command has made its highest revenue under his stewardship and he is not looking back. The recent yoman job to smear his image does not give him any him any concern as he could not condescend to a mare blackmail which he sees as distraction for the economic saboteurs to strike. Even when there seem to be a ‘hired fake journalist’ trying to hunt him down, he has remained undeterred. For now Comptroller kolade remains the best officer to handle this dying corridor to put Nigeria and Benin Republic on mutual interest. He always remain grateful to the Comptroller General of Customs for the opportunity to serve at Seme, famous land border. Comptroller Kolade may have sustained the tempo of Trade activities between Nigeria and Benin Republic and other West African Countries inherited from the then Comptroller Bomodi, now an ACG. E,I&I, that  won the Land Border in Trade Facilitation beating Sokoto/Zamfara  and  Kano/Jigawa Commands to it.
